UNITARIAN UNIVERSALISTS? WHO ARE WE?

If you're searching for a religious home that is guided by a quest for truth and meaning, not by a set creed or dogma, we invite you to discover Unitarian Universalism. We are a caring, open–minded religious community that encourages you to seek your own spiritual path. Unitarian Universalist congregations are places where people gather to nurture their spirits and put their faith into action by helping to make our communities—and the world—a better place. OUR CONGREGATION. WHO ARE WE?

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Wyoming Valley began in 1991 with help from the Joseph Priestley District, UUA and the Rev. John Morgan. We are a growing, vital liberal religious presence in our part of the world. Sunday services are held at 10:00 AM at the Montessori School, 851 W. Market St., Kingston, PA, 18704. Children usually join us for the opening minutes of Sunday worship, then have their own religious education classes.

Our Mission Statement: Our mission is to provide a welcoming and supportive community which values and embraces diversity, seeks peace and justice through social action, and nurtures lifelong spiritual growth for ourselves and others.

This new, one sentence statement will be used to guide and motivate the members of the congregation, and to help us communicate who we are to the larger world. It was unanimously approved by the Board on March 18, 2007 and approved by the entire congregation at our annual meeting on May 20, 2007.

To fulfill this mission, we set ourselves the following goals:

  • to provide worship experiences which are open, inspiring, and life affirming.
  • to encourage youth and adults, through nurturing religious education programs, to become free-thinking people living by Unitarian Universalist principles,
  • to empower our members to be advocates for the realization of peace and justice so that our world is a safer and healthier place for all,
  • to share our religion with the Wyoming Valley and to actively reach out for new members.
