Religious Education

Religious education is a lifelong journey. Rather than teaching religion, we search for truth and meaning as our lives unfold. By learning from the many world religions, being aware of wonder in our everyday lives, and studying our own Unitarian Universalist heritage, we uncover our potential for spiritual and religious growth. Lifespan religious education classes offer our children and adults the means for religious growth: a stimulating curriculum, a supportive community, and a safe place to think and discover for themselves.

We Believe: That each and every person is important. That all people should be treated fairly. That our churches are places where all people are accepted and where we keep on learning together. That each person must be free to search for what is true and right in life. That everyone should have a vote about the things that concern them. In working for a peaceful, fair, and free world. In caring for our planet earth. (Children's Version of the Principles of Unitarian Universalism)

Goals for our Religious Education Program: To provide experiences that align our inner lives with our UU Principles through the following components: 1. A Children's Chapel that combines familiar rituals and new experiences. 2. An empowered Youth Group working together with adult partners. 3. A commitment to social action. 4. Activities that draw families together. 5. Retreats that offer new modes of experience. 6. Age-appropriate sexuality education.

Teachers: Our religious education teachers are volunteers from the congregation. Many teach a complete section of the curriculum, while others choose a particular Sunday to help out. The variety of backgrounds and talents that our teachers bring to the classroom adds a richness to the children's, youth's and adult's experience. The teachers often find that they are learning too and find this to be a rewarding experience.
