Unnatural Causes – This month the SAC scheduled the next Unnatural Causes meeting as a potluck at 6 pm on, Tuesday, September 9, at the home of Hans Baerwald, on Harveys Lake. The agenda for the meeting is to decide on our objectives for this project, and to discuss what we would like to do for an inaugural event or events. The PBS program, entitled “Unnatural Causes”, explores the correlation between physical health and economic status. All are welcome to attend.
Peace Camp – Camp was a great success this August with 43 children attending the weeklong sessions at Kirby Park. Kudos to the volunteers from UUCWV: Brian Dugas, Oliver Williams, and Juliann Merryman.
Habitat for Humanity – Following last month’s work session, Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity is asking for additional volunteers to help at their job sites for the following days:
September 6, September 13, September 27, November 1, November 15, November 22, and/or November 29. Please note that these worksdays are not organized UUCWV volunteer activities. Volunteers should contect Wyominig Valley Habitat for Humanity directly. Any the tools, safety glasses and dust masks you need will be furnished. Lunch will be served.
Are you interested in other projects?
All it takes is one advocate to initiate new Social Action projects. Examples include: Literacy programs, Prison ministry (Exodus), Habitat for Humanity, Food Kitchen, foster care, homeless shelters, Big Brothers/Big Sisters. If you have a pet project that’s not represented here, speak with Margaret Bakker, 675-8843.
